Vacaville High School has won the Monticello Empire League School of the Year as the MEL’s best athletic program.

The honor is determined by cumulative team finishes in the league’s 20 varsity sports. Points are awarded based on place (10 for 1st, 7, 5, 4, 2, 1).

Vacaville earned championships in nine sports — boys cross country, football, volleyball, boys basketball, wrestling, boys and girls Soccer, boys golf, and boys track.

“This honor is very important to our school and athletic program,” said Athletic Director Mike Papadopolous. “This season is very special given the circumstances and the resilience our kids have shown throughout the year. It is a culmination of a lot of hard work by our student-athletes, coaches, families, school staff and those who continued to support us throughout the year. Our teams were prepared and ready the day we were given the green light to compete. We would like to thank our advocates who allowed our seasons to occur for all student-athletes.”
