The Bears yet again silenced doubters with a come-from-behind win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. They have one of the best records in the NFC at 4-1. That still, however, hasn’t kept some critics from doubting them.
Local and national outlets have them ranked as high as No. 9 in the NFL, and as low as No. 19. Their average spot is No. 14.
Here’s where local and national media outlets rank the Bears out of all 32 NFL teams.
Shaw Local: 12
Writes our Hub Arkush: "Dominant ‘D’ reemerged second half vs. Bucs. Still need an offense."
Chicago Tribune: 14
Writes the Chicago Tribune: “They’ve rallied for three wins when trailing by 13 or more points, adding to coach Matt Nagy’s belief there is something special about this team. The red-zone defense, tops in the league, is indeed special. The offense needs much improvement.”
ESPN: 13
Writes ESPN: “The Bears have yet to establish a consistent rushing attack under coach Matt Nagy, who doubles as the offensive playcaller. The Bears enter Week 6 ranked 26th in total rushing yards (477) and dead last in rushing touchdowns (one).”
NFL.com: 16
Writes NFL.com: “I’m not sure these Bears are special -- that's actually one of the last words I'd use to describe them -- but 4-1 is 4-1, and they possess a commendable closer's mentality.”
Sports Illustrated: 19
Writes Sports Illustrated: “If you were to take the Bears’ performance through five weeks and simulate it 10 million times, you’d have more instances of the franchise suspending operations due to a Mothra attack on the city of Chicago than the Bears sitting at 4-1.”
USA Today: 14
Writes USA Today: “One of Week 5's best images was Tom Brady looking up from the turf with that "You again?" expression upon realizing Khalil Mack had bagged him yet again.”
CBS Sports: 9
Writes CBS Sports: “They are 4-1. Nobody can take that away from them, even if it hasn't always been pretty. Beating Tampa Bay was a nice victory.”
The Athletic: 17
Write The Athletic: Nick Foles is “the most high-variance quarterback I’ve ever seen, and the Bears’ win over the Bucs last week offered the entire Foles experience in one game — really in one half. The bad news for Chicago: They are one of the worst 4-1 teams of all-time.”
Yahoo Sports: 11
Writes Yahoo Sports: “The Bears have failed to exceed 18 first downs or 269 yards in either of their last two games. You won’t hear as much griping after a win though, and Chicago got a quality victory over Tampa Bay. Still, they need to figure out a way to generate some offense.”
Bleacher Report: 14
Writes Bleacher Report: “The Chicago Bears have won four games this season, and they have piled up zero style points while doing it.”
