Four area men were arrested after a task force of local, state and federal law enforcement executed search warrants early Friday morning and seized numerous firearms and over 12,000 bags of heroin.
Homes on Irving Street in West Springfield and Liberty Street in Springfield were raided by agents of the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Springfield Task Force, Springfield Police Narcotics Unit, West Springfield Detective Bureau, Holyoke Police department the FBI Western Mass. Gang Task Force, the Easthampton Police Department, The Massachusetts State Police Gang Task Force, Hampden Sheriff’s Department and the Hampden District Attorney’s Intelligence Unit
The ATF had been investigating illegal firearms activity in the area for approximately two months before the warrants were requested.
Law enforcement raided the Irving Street home in West Springfield at about 6 a.m. Friday and took occupants Ricky Almonte, 26, Richard Almonte, 35, into custody. Both were charged with trafficking in heroin more than 200 grams, three counts of possession of a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession with the intent to distribute a Class A substance.
Also arrested in the Irving Street home was 38-year-old Gilberto Rodriguez of Mattoon Street in Springfield. He was charged with trafficking in heroin more than 200 grams and possession with the intent to distribute a class A substance.
At about the same time search warrants were executed in an apartment on the 400 block of Liberty Street, where officers located a high-capacity semi-automatic firearm with ammunition, and 18 ecstasy pills.
The resident of that apartment, Yadiell Dejesus was arrested and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license (second offence), two counts of possession of a high capacity magazine, possession of a high capacity firearm while in the commission of a felony, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, improper storage of a firearm and possession of a Class E substance.
