“The museum itself can’t be open, but we can bring it outdoors,” said Michelle Elrod, a management aide with the city.

And so the city did, while stressing that people walking over to view the exhibit in Sam Hicks Monument Park adhere to social-distancing rules. Those who did saw work from painters Lisa Cabrera and Jennifer Bonneteau, and photographers Maria Serrano and Mary Brown in the third edition of the Outdoor Exhibit Experience.

The exhibit debuted Saturday, Aug. 22, and was to run four straight Saturdays. Because of extreme heat, it was canceled Labor Day weekend and now is set to run through Saturday, Sept. 19.

“It’s just our way of supporting local art while dealing with this COVID crisis,” said Tracy Frick, Temecula community services manager. “It’s an experiment.”

The series could be extended, Frick said.
