We couldn’t be more grateful. We put out the call to help Save Montclair Local, and you’ve been coming through. Now … it’s time to party.

We want you to join Montclair Local Nonprofit News and Armando “Outthere Diaz” of the Weirdo Party for the Halloween Silent Disco to Save Montclair Local. If you’ve ever been to a Weirdo Party Silent Disco before, you know the drill — show up, rent a pair of headphones and dance the night away as the DJ sends the music right to your ears.

We’ll be at Glenfield Park Halloween night, Oct. 31 from 6 to 9 p.m. Come after trick-or-treating! Costumes aren’t required, but they sound like fun to us.

It’s $25 for an individual, or $50 for a family of up to four. Max attendance is 75 people, so get your payment in ASAP: You can send it via Cash App $jsharif2329, via Venmo to PopupNDance or use the form here at MontclairLocal.news, under “Montclair Local Events” (See the bottom of this post). Give us a heads up you’re coming with a Facebook RSVP.

SAVE MONTCLAIR LOCAL: We need your support, and we need it today. The journalism you value from Montclair Local, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, depends on the community's support — we exist because the old model of selling ads alone just can't fund journalism at the level we endeavor to provide. That's why you've seen other local newsrooms cut back staff or shut down entirely. Montclair Local was created because we believe that's unacceptable; the community's at its best when triumphs are celebrated, when power is held to account, when diverse lived experiences are shared — when the community is well-informed.

Montclair is seeking to raise $230,000 from donors, members and grantors between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 to put us on firm footing for 2022, and continue supporting the hard work of our journalists into the new year and beyond. Visit MontclairLocal.news/donations to see how we're doing and make your contribution.

We’re working on getting some great vendors in place too; more to come on that soon. Interested in joining us as a vendor? Email toler@montclairlocal.news right away.

All proceeds will go to Save Montclair Local — our campaign to raise $230,000 between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 of this year for our nonprofit newsroom. It’s a big number, and an urgent one: That’s what it’ll take to put us on firm footing heading into 2022, and be able to continue to deliver the news you value so much. We’ve seen what happens when commercial newsrooms cut back or close down. We’ve seen it happen in Montclair. But democracy suffers when journalism goes away — we believe the community is at its best when it’s informed. Your donations help us do that. Go to MontclairLocal.news/donations to contribute at any time.

And we have some big, big thanks to share — as we approach a major milestone of $100,000 in fundraising this quarter.

We had a fantastic time with 4 Flavors Art Gallery & Framing on Wednesday, Oct 20, at an opening night reception for works by graffiti artist Sen2 Figueroa. Don’t miss his amazing work — the exhibition will be on view through Oct. 31. 4 Flavors generously offered to donate 10% of all proceeds to Montclair Local that night, and all of its recommended $75 “ticket” proceeds. Between that and direct donations, Montclair Local received more than $2,200 that evening, while we enjoyed some remarkable art. Be sure to get to 204 Bellevue Ave. in Montclair before the exhibition wraps up to see it for yourself.

We were also proud to be platinum sponsors of AAPI Montclair’s Light Up Montclair, a celebration of Diwali put on in partnership with the Montclair Art Museum. It was a beautiful day, full of music, dancing, delicious food, education and connection-building between Montclair’s Asian American and Pacific Islander residents and the larger overall community of Montclair.

In under three hours, 26 people who came by our table donated to Montclair Local Nonprofit News, renewing or starting new memberships (which, incidentally, get the paper delivered to your house every Thursday). In all, we collected about $2,500 in contributions.

And then beyond that — so many people have been coming to MontclairLocal.news/donations this past week, to make contributions large and small alike. We’re so thankful for each of them.

We have a long way to go before we hit $230,000 — but this has been an amazing start. Thank you so much, Montclair. We’re proud to serve you, and humbled that you’re showing us the support we need to continue to do so.
